Today is Willard "Mitt" Romney's last day as Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts – well, for now, he could come back to haunt later. The Globe ran a story in this morning's edition to let us know that he actually left a little stink in the statehouse by making a slew of 11th hour appointments to state offices. Though he's attempted to exit the Governors office stage right (which is really to the left for onlookers) he'll be taking his lone walk physically down center (perhaps more appropriate) as he leaves the Beacon Hill. Oh, forgive us for that horrible illusion to stage directions and political leanings. We would just really like to see Romney as a cartoon. On his way out he has also filed papers with the Federal Election Commission.
The Commonwealth PAC will move efforts into a Presidential Search Committee and begin to raise and spend money on the possibility of Romney actually making a bid for President. Essentially, though, he's in. He'll be running against McCain and Giuliani so far – making Mitt the most attractive candidate in the field, but that's just based on physical looks. He's still a Mormon, which likely will not play well in the national political arena. But here we've got our own political punching bag running for President again. He'll be leaving the state on the campaign trail (unlike the 212 days he was missing in 2006) and has already laid some seeds. He's made fun of Massachusetts quite a bit, and with the latest from the ConCon he'll be able to position himself a little further from same sex marriages he so desperately wants to get away from. All this and only 54 shopping days left until the Iowa caucuses.
Image ripped from Hanna Barbera - for an homage to the passing of the cartoonist and for Snag's constant "Exit, Stage Left" or "exit, stage right. even." (we got in a flip flop joke too!)
