The Boston Globe Magazine this week featured a number of photographs that the editors had picked as some of the best of the year. Then they told the back story. But it wasn’t the photos in that feature that caught our eye. Boston's new police commissioner
was featured on page six in a striking and attractive photograph for a short "First Person" interview of 9 questions. We couldn't help but think there was something missing from the photo they used: a mustache for the commish. Maybe
Super Troopers tainted us, or perhaps a
BBC article from three years ago, or just stereotypes of mustachioed cops that make it seem like Edward Davis should be sporting some hair above the top lip. But the BBC does back up our idea
with a quote from an Indian police officer speaking of the program paying constables for growing mustaches:
"Moustaches are improving the personalities of our constables. They are acquiring an aura of their own. They are creating a positive impression on the local people and getting a lot of respect."
So we took to Photoshop to see what
a healthy mustache would look like on
Boston's new police commissioner. It seems to command more respect on the man, no?
