Maybe the blotter will shrink or become less frequent – Commissioner Ed Davis has announced an increase in homicide detectives and some promising steps toward reducing Boston's murder rate.
Davis plans to increase the number of homicide detectives by 25 percent (there are only 22 now), to give detectives more time to investigate murders by taking them off other details, and to hire detectives of other races. More of the measures appear in the Globe.
Quick question – why didn't all these measures happen a long time ago? Whatever happened to "an ounce of prevention" and such? Not that Bostonist is complaining. We're pretty happy the Commish is making a move now.
It's not just the youngsters tagging anymore. The BPD arrested a 60-year-old woman writing grafitti inside a Bank of America ATM.
Also, in an update from an earlier blotter, a Boston University student fell from a fourth-story window early Sunday morning. The student died from his injuries, and police are investigating.

eh... "to increase the number of homicide detectives by 25 percent (there are only 22 now)". That will increase the total number of homocide detectives to 27.5, right? Who'll be the half-detective?
