SchillingWatch: Schilling for Senate?

schilling-for-senate.jpgRemember how Bostonist wondered what the Schilling family was up to when Shonda made an appearance as a concerned citizen during one of the gubernatorial debates?

And remember how Curt Schilling burnished his public profile with a stint on Celebrity Jeopardy!?

If WRKO listeners have their way, the Schilling family may be preparing for more than a comfy retirement filled with game-show and reality-show appearances. This week, WRKO had the bright idea that Curt Schilling should run against John Kerry now that Kerry plans to focus his attentions on being a senator rather than a president.

Jesse Noyes of the Herald spoke with Schilling about the idea, and Schilling was the embodiment of coy: "I envision that I will probably be pretty busy in 2008. But I’m flattered as hell to even make this phone call.”

WRKO has an online petition asking you to choose between Schilling or Kerry. Given WRKO's fan base, it's no surprise that 78% of visitors said they'd pick Schilling.

There's also a big announcement on the front page that Schilling will be on the Todd Feinburg show between 9am and noon Monday morning to talk about a Senate run a little more.

If anything comes of this, the big winner will be WRKO's Feinburg, who can always say that he got the Schilling ball rolling on his own show, and the whole staff of WRKO, which is fanning the flames of publicity with the "Schilling for Senate" banner flying prominently on its home page.

We modified the "Schilling for Senate" banner on WRKO. They've ended "Schilling for Senate" with an exclamation point, but since he's not running yet, we're playing it safe with a question mark.
