Sports Redux: Brady Does 'Walk of Shame,' Celtics Lose - Again, JD Drew Predictions

patriot-coze.jpgTom Brady is awfully busy even though the Pats lost to the Colts. He's a star witness, and he's been wooing Gisele Bundchen. The Globe wonders what the two have in common other than their superhuman bone structures, and they come up with right-wing politics:

The New York Post reported yesterday that Gisele refused to meet Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez when she and the Marxist leader were both in Rio last week. Brady, meanwhile, was first lady Laura Bush's guest at her husband's '04 State of the Union speech, and once told ESPN Magazine his "craziest ambition" was to be a US senator.

Then again, come on - are these two really going to be talking when they spend time together? The Herald is already reporting on Brady's "walks of shame" from Bundchen's apartment.

Brady has been acting all peevish at the photographers who've caught him leaving Bundchen's, but you know that he wants all his buddies to know he's playing hide-the-sausage with a famous model.

The Celtics have stayed in the shadows, coming to light only when people realize just how bad they really are. Last night, they lost to the Raptors. Yet again, it was close, but close isn't going to help the Celtics move out of the NBA basement.

Michael of Bunkosquad, who will soon be gracing the Sports Redux, defends the Celtics when the Globe's Dan Shaughnessy slings the following arrow at the green team: "Just who are the loyal 16,199 who went to the Celtics' game against the Hawks Wednesday night? And why? Among other distinctions, the Celtics have the worst home record (4-16) in the NBA."

Gee whiz, maybe people see the Celitcs because they stay loyal to the home team? And, in case Shaugnessy hasn't noticed, most of their losing games have been close. Michael is far more eloquent when bursting Shaugnessy's bubble:

Part of being a diehard fan is meaning sometimes you die hard. Sometimes harder than others. I know that the thing these days is for hotshot columnists and other idiots to ignore the local teams when they're losing, then show up in full colors as soon as things get interesting. But people like that make pond scum look principled and honorable.

Isn't being a sports fan part of being engaged in the life of your home town? To dismiss the home team when they lose is to say, "I'm just passing through."

Last, but not least, the drama of JD Drew's shoulder is finally over, and the Red Sox got him.

But the seemingly endless contract wrangling has left Vickie/Victoria feeling suspicious, and she makes a reasonable prediction: "He goes into the season and makes it to, say, June. Then gets hurt for a few weeks. Maybe has to go to Pawtucket for a couple of games to get his swing back at the end of his time on the DL…. While Drew recovers, he listens to Boston fans on the radio, television and what have you talking about how this was never a good idea, signing him in the first place, so then he gets cranky. Annoyance ensues."
