Sometimes Bostonist wonders if Curt Schilling news should appear in the Sports Redux, but his announcement today has an impact across our content categories.
When calling in to WEEI today, Schilling possibly let down his political fans by announcing that he wants to pitch through 2008, preferably for the Red Sox.
Schilling seemed to dismiss the idea of a Senate run when he called it a "Senator thing," but he's still thinking about elections. Of one major presidential candidate, Schilling said the following, "As far as Hillary Clinton goes, I just want her to keep talking" in the hopes that she'll suffer from John Kerry's case of "open mouth/insert foot."
He also endorsed another presidential candidate in the interview: "I'm actually kind of excited about the fact that I think Senator [John] McCain is going to do something official here, and he's going to be the man I'm going to back."
Schilling spoke to WRKO, and Todd Feinburg said of Schilling's announcement: "Curt announces this morning his intention to keep playing beyond the 2007 season (he had said he would only play one more year), showing just what a clever politician he is and how strongly he's considering a Senate run."
Leave it to WRKO for automatically leaping to the conclusion that Schilling will run. But Schilling didn't say no to running for Senate either. He just said no to running for the Senate right away. That kind of coyness indicates that he may have the chops for politics after all.
