Super Bowl Commercials 2007: Not All the Ads Were for Bud Light

The Super Bowl is supposed to be a face-off between the two best football teams, but it's also a free-for-all among corporations as they scramble for your advertising dollars. This year seemed a touch uninspired, but a few ads were either funny enough or odd enough to stand out. Bostonist braved all the commercials and brings the best to you. We'd also like to hear your thoughts on the ads in the comments.

Without further ado, here's the best Super Bowl commercials for 2007:

1. Carlos Mencia as an ESL instructor teaching his student how to order a beer. This was a surprise. Mencia can be loud and screamy, but a commercial-sized dose of his humor is just about right. Bostonist wishes he had the time to teach his class how to order a beer in Boston.

2. Chad Johnson's Super Bowl Party for the NFL Network. The NFL Network's commercials succeed because they put famous people in unexpected situations. Janet Reno can really chill out on a sofa, and Martha Stewart was a natural at coaching NFL players on the importance of cilantro.

More commercials - including video clips - after the jump!

3. Jim Gaffigan and Michael Ian Black for Sierra Mist. Super Bowl commercials must be innovative, and a "beard comb-over" was definitely a novel concept. Michael Ian Black was also a perfect straight man for Gaffigan's over-the-top antics. We also appreciate the continuation of the Lieutenant Dangle/Tobias Funke short-shorts trend. The only downside of the commercial is that Bostonist completely forgot what it was advertising.

4. Garmin gadget versus a map monster. Creativity is everything in a Super Bowl ad. This one wasn't a giggler, but the map monster was completely trippy and might have made you think you ingested something illegal even if you hadn't.

5. K-Fed Rollin' VIP for Nationwide. Bless Kevin Federline's gold-digging little heart. Bostonist wanted to hate this, but we really can't. If Nationwide wanted to communicate the message that life does indeed come at you fast, they made their point. Now it's K-Fed, 1; Britney, 0.

Losers: 1. The Snickers man-kiss will cause a lot of talk because of the image of two men smooching over a Snickers. If the ad really wanted to be edgy instead of flat-out pointless and offensive, the two dudes should have suddenly realized their unstoppable attraction and skipped off into the land of happy Snickers man-kisses.

2. Jessica Simpson's ever-morphing face hawking Pizza Hut cheesy bites. The commercial wasn't that bad, but does her face look different? It took Bostonist a second to realize who she was.

3. Bostonist never, ever wants to see another ad for Eddie Murphy's new movie Norbit again.
