While we're waiting to see BU and BC face off in the Beanpot next Monday night, we gotta make do with what we have - the Bruins and the Celtics.
Aw, that's not fair. The Bruins won one against the Washington Capitals last night in a shootout. It was the night of a thousand shootouts across the NHL (actually, five shootouts), and the Bruins enjoyed one of the victories. And who scored the winning goal? Phil Kessel.
As for the Celtics, Paul Pierce almost suited up for the Celtics this week, only to be sent back home for a fever and an infected elbow (how does that happen?).
But let's keep the potential return of Pierce on our minds. While perusing the Metro on the T, Bostonist noted the following comment from sports columnist Mike Petraglia: "In all likelihood, Paul Pierce will return to the Celtics lineup this week. The question is, with lottery positioning at stake, should he?"
YES! YES! Ya see, Mr. Petraglia, there's this thing called pride. It's pretty nifty. It makes you pick your face up off the floor and fight instead of hoping some hotshot high-school player is going to rescue you.
Mr. Pierce, please come back, pretty please because last night's loss against the Pistons hurt. It hurt to see the team's 15th loss in a row. It hurt to watch the announcers on FSN work so hard to be optimistic. Bless 'em. They deserve a medal. As always, the camera cut away to the fans, and one shot featured two disappointed-looking kids in the third quarter, when the Pistons were smoking the Celtics 71-52. The Pistons played nice and let the Celtics crawl back up to 102 while the Pistons finished with 109.
It's time for tough love. Can Stephen Colbert make some sort of motivating joke out of this, like he did with minor-league hockey team Saginaw Spirit? We could throw cans of baked beans on the court, maybe get Doc Rivers on the show, something! Can we be the Boston Colberts for a night?
In the good news department, Pats coach Bill Belichick and Chargers superstar running back LaDainian Tomlinson have kissed and made up before the pro bowl. Tomlinson had suggested that Belichick fueled the Patriots' poor behavior in the Pats' narrow victory over the Chargers in the playoffs.
Maybe Tomlinson heard the Pats really like lawyers and decided to forgive. However, Tomlinson said he's still mad at Pats cornerback Ellis Hobbs for rubbing the Pats victory in Tomlinson's face.
