And to think, we just posted about a perfectly harmless Scavenger Hunt for nudes at the MFA ...
A man was offended at the sight of naked ladies cavorting during Lowell's late-night, cable-access New England Punk Goth Metal show. How come that never happens on our cable access?
Anyway, when the Lowell Sun spoke with the offended man, he described what he saw as "total, complete, nothing-on nudity."
Apparently "total, complete, nothing-on nudity" is worse than plain old nudity.
We decided we just had to see what was going on. We did manage to find archived broadcasts of the New England PGM Show online. We came across the latest program, which featured a performance by self-proclaimed "Death Folk" act Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys.
The performance by the duo, made up of Walter Sickert and Edrie, got a little naughty when Edrie took off a heavy jacket to reveal a corset and a garter belt. While we were impressed by their "Death Folk," it turns out that they weren't the objectionable material. There wasn't much to object to unless you're easily offended.
However, that didn't stop WBZ from showing clips of Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys performing, which was a little misleading. Perhaps someone at the station thought the image of a woman in a corset - but still fully clothed - was good enough to suggest something naughty was taking place.
On the band's MySpace page, band member Edrie chastises WBZ: "We're actively engaged in acquiring the minutes of the city council meeting at which they discussed this very topic because we like to do our homework about an issue before we rile off in a public form how objectionable we actually find people."
If you were hoping to find what has Lowell up in arms, you won't. Executive producer of the New England PGM Show told WCVB: "Public access, by its nature, does not have the authority to preview or screen material. The segment under scrutiny was in no way produced by me or at LTC or with any of LTC's equipment."
He's already pulled the content from rotation, so the good people of Lowell can breathe easy. So they should just let the matter drop. Here's to hoping that someone on the city council (members of which were already huffing and puffing in the WBZ clip) doesn't try to make an example out of the New England PGM Show.
Image of New England PGM Show graphic from the show's website. Bostonist wanted to put up a visual from the Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys performance because they look like they would be a terrific live act, but we don't want anyone else thinking they were the ones who were showing "total, complete, full-on nudity."

I only know two things here:
1. At some point, Mr. Favreau viewed what he perceived as "offensive" nudity.
2. Thereafter, he kept watching. Long enough for one girl to strip, then strip another girl, then peform some kind of kissing/painting ritual.
So as far as I can see, Mr. Favreau consented to viewing the material. At some point, continued viewing becomes a willful act. And I don't buy any "well I just wanted to see how outrageous it would get" explanation either. (Really, judge, I just smoked the pot because I wanted to see what it was like!)
Let's not forget, the show was called "Punk Goth Metal." Was he really expecting to see, I dunno, something "mainstream"?
My suspicion is that Favreau's wife walked in on him and all of this "complaining" is now just "cover." If he didn't like it, he could have changed the channel.
BTW LTC gets a big frownie : ( for pulling the segment and essentially making the village complainer their de facto program director. They should review the material and, if it complies with FCC guidelines, they should should put it back in the rotation ASAP.
Walter and I had to laugh out loud at your wonderful reporting of the event - go ahead and put up an image of us and let people decide if we were indeed "objectionable"
Thank you for your lovely comments about our performance!!!
Love
- Edrie
PS: I've seen the material in question and I found it completely non offensive
