Boston Blotter: What's Worse? Fung Wah or Peanut Butter?

peterpan.jpgCrime seems to have gone down because a) no one feels like going outdoors and making trouble or b) the news stations are so busy reporting on the endless road accidents that they don't notice any trouble.

Fung Wah remains the superstar of the blotter, as the driver of the bus that crashed into a guardrail on the Pike got busted with a fake log book. For once, Fung Wah could have blamed it on the weather, but they couldn't even get that right!

Last we heard, the driver got in trouble for keeping a fake log and faulty brakes. But the list of violations quickly grew longer: "Speeding, negligent operation, maintaining false driving records, and an equipment violation related to the bus's brakes." Good gravy.

And mind your peanut butter. It might do more to you than stick to the roof of your mouth. Some jars of the sticky stuff have been tainted with salmonella. You can keep your Jif, but watch out for the Peter Pan:

The Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers not to consume certain jars of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter, made by ConAgra in a single facility in Sylvester, Ga. The jars are said to have a product code on the lid or label that begins with No. 2111.

In Newton, a creepy dude tried to play bumper cars with an ex-girlfriend when she spurned his attempt to rekindle their love. The woman led him straight to the police station, where they promptly taught the guy that his actions weren't exactly romantic.

And we can't resist the weird news of the day. The BPD has earned another pun prize with this headline: "Bad Hair 'Products' Day." A woman tried to lift 18 "items" (bottles? jars?) of hair products by stuffing them into her bag. As if the store guard wouldn't notice bottles of Paul Mitchell bulging from a satchel.

All charges are alleged until proven under law. Image of Peter Pan peanut butter from ConAgra.
