Sports Redux: Bruins and Babydaddies

bruins.jpgWe are loving us some Tim Thomas. The Bruins' goalie saved the day and helped the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6 to 3. Keep playing like that, fellas, and we can start entertaining hopes that one of our pro sports teams will wind up in a playoff. Maybe?

It's time for the Bruins to get serious with the trade deadline coming up in a week. The Globe's Fluto Shinzawa is speculating that Marco Sturm will be either get a raise or start wearing a new uniform. No matter what happens, Sturm "has performed like a player expecting a salary hike." Now it's up to the management to make sure Sturm plays that way for the Bruins.

And we're getting sick of the news that Tom Brady is Bridget Moynahan's babydaddy. It's not as if people haven't been knocked up before. And it's definitely not as if professional athletes haven't knocked people up before! Last night, the WLVI "Night Team" interviewed Pats fans who expressed shock that Tom Brady would do such a thing.

But Dan Shaughnessy went overboard with a grandfatherly commentary on how Tom Brady is human. Wait, he's human? We thought he was an action figure!

Here's one of Shaughnessy's lines: "Brady was going to be the Boston superstar athlete who'd get in and out of town without being touched by scandal or controversy. No police blotters. No mosh pit dives. No rollovers on 95 North on the way home from the Foxy Lady." Now all of the above would be something to see!

But he knocked someone up. Is that a bad thing? He is a grown man, after all. We can't wait to see what the gang over at Dan Shaughnessy Watch has to say about this column.

And what's going on with Manny Ramirez? Julian Tavarez is saying that Ramirez will be late - again - to spring training because his mother is sick. But you never know. WBZ got it right when they described Ramirez as "enigmatic." No kiddin'.
