Dr Pepper Almost Defaces Graves

Botched in Boston seems on the fast track to a new defining statement of our city. Kerry started it with his botched joke that got tremendous play nationally. The Aqua Teen Hunger Force bomb scare brought it back as a botched marketing campaign, or at least a botched reaction to a marketing campaign. Dr Pepper has now ended their Hunt for More promotion – labeling it botched – and revealed the location of a coin redeemable for $10,000. The search had people scouring 23 cities, one each for the 23 secret flavors that give Dr Pepper its flavor.

The coin had been hidden in the Granary burying ground – the final resting place of Sam Adams, the victims of the Boston Massacre, and Mother Goose (or so they say), among other significant figures in colonial Boston history. The National Park Service oversees and maintains the grounds as part of the Freedom Trail. Rangers had closed it to tourists on Monday due to icy conditions on the paths. When the final clue in the Dr Pepper promotion was revealed on Tuesday people got pissed they couldn't access the site. After officials learned that treasure hunters were descending on the burial ground they posted a police detail and kept people out. After contacting the promotional team and searching for two days for the prize, the Globe reports the man who planted it in the first place was called back to the scene to reveal the coin's location.

Dr Pepper ended the search and will hold a random drawing for the $10,000 prize to all those who received the final clue in their game. The search forced people to enter in codes from Dr Pepper products in order to reveal clues in the chase – 30 in total for the Boston prize. Unlike the Aqua Teen botch that got the name of the cartoon broadcast over national television for a couple of days, and curious viewers tuning into Cartoon Network, the Dr Pepper botch won't likely have people running out to the store to buy a Dr Pepper. Excuse us, we've got to hit up the Store 24 – something tells us that we would, in fact, like to be a Pepper too.
