The Bruins pounded the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 last night. Not only are the Bruins winning consistently, but they are getting closer to a playoff spot. A few weeks ago, this would have been inconceivable, but the Bruins continue to surprise. It's looking like Marco Sturm is close to re-signing, and Patrice Bergeron seems to be recovering from his injury.
After a series of spankings, the Celtics played the LA Lakers last night, 122 to 96. Why so brutal, Kobe and Phil? Apparently the Lakers were on a six-game losing streak. Six games? You call that a losing streak? Ours is bigger than yours, you bunch of crybabies! (Boy, you know it's getting bad when you're actually taking pride in ugly losing streaks.)
In non-score sports news, San Diego Charger LaDainian Tomlinson lost his father in an auto accident. It's been a rough year for the occasional Pats nemesis, and we hope he'll be able to bounce back from the loss.
We're also still reeling from the sudden loss of Celtic legend Dennis Johnson. The praise keeps rolling in, although Adam Reilly reminds us that Johnson had a dark side, too. Johnson was charged in a domestic violence dispute. The doesn't mean he was a bad player, but Reilly makes the good point that many sports writers haven't brought up the episode - especially since the dispute probably trashed his chances at coaching in the NBA.
