The Florida Panthers beat the Bruins 7 to 2. What happened? Things were looking up! Maybe they're just tired after being on the road. Or maybe stamina isn't their strong suit. At least Marco Sturm resigned for four years. Fourteen million dollars ought to help wake him up!
The Bruins' loss surprised us a little bit. The Celtics' loss did not. They lost to the Jazz 87 to 105. There's a thin silver lining for at least one person - Leon Powe, who might be best known for being involved in one of Wally Szczerbiak's sillier ankle-busters. Powe got to start for the Celtics and show off a little. Doc Rivers likes the fact that he's a fighter, which is important because a few other Celtics who shall remain unnamed play like sleepwalkers. Compared to the rest of the Celtics, Powe's salary is tiny - so if he keeps doing well, then maybe another team will snap him up and give him some more playing time.
Beyond sports that are currently in season, we received an e-mail about an all-important test that aspiring pro football players are supposed to take during the NFL draft combine - and it isn't the 40-yard dash.
Football players must take the Wonderlic test at the NFL draft combine, which is going on right now. The Wonderlic test isn't like the SAT - it's just designed to make sure you can grab your ass with both hands. Unfortunately, some test-takers scored so low that there was genuine concern whether or not they could tell their asses from their elbows.
There is doubt as to whether or not the Wonderlic test matters. Tennessee Titan Vince Young scored a staggeringly bad 6 out of 50 - but he went on to be Offensive Rookie of the Year. (They say his test was scored incorrectly, and he earned a 16 on the second try.) Since Young caught so much flack having a score similar to that of a potato, the NFL is being a little more tight-lipped with scores.
Fox Sports has a sample Wonderlic test for you to enjoy. Here's one question: The ninth month of the year is: 1. October // 2. January // 3. June // 4. September // 5. May. Now you see why we are so hoping someone leaks this year's Wonderlic scores!
Last bit of football-related news - another Denver Bronco has died tragically. Reserve tailback Damien Nash was participating in a charity basketball event. No one noticed anything unusual, but Nash collapsed after the game and later died. People are still trying to figure out what happened. He was only 24.
