Story Time With This American Life

ira.jpgThis American Life Live! will be at the Boston Opera House at 8:00 pm tonight.

This American Life, the beloved radio show syndicated on NPR, is going on a multimedia blitz. To celebrate the television version of its radio program, which will air on Showtime, Ira Glass and some of his show's popular guests, including Sarah Vowell, Dan Savage, and Jonathan Goldstein, will speak at the Boston Opera House tonight.

As icing on the cake, Mates of State will be the musical guest. And, boy, was Pitchfork excited. They started daydreaming about Neko Case on Prairie Home Companion.

Each This American Life program has a theme, and tonight's will be "What I Learned From TV." Bostonist suspects that sex guru Dan Savage learned quite a bit from the medium.

Word is that the TV show is amazing and might get you to subscribe to Showtime. Judging from the trailer on YouTube, the TV program might be even better than the radio show because we can see what the storytellers describe so eloquently:

The television show will debut on Showtime on March 22. You'll find more information at the program's official site.

I was there last night. Really hard to describe the full effect of watching an episode being recorded live. Loved it. Would pay more to see it again in the future.

I went to the show last night, too. Amazing. I'm still smiling thinking about how lovely it was to have those writers and musicians right there in the room. This American Life always feels personal and the live show just took that intimacy to a whole new level. Should they come back, I recommend grabbing tickets as soon as you can. And then, go fly a kite.
