Boston Blotter: Look Before You Drink

epsom-salts.jpg--Boston revealed yet again that it is quick on the draw - maybe too quick - when it comes to terror threats. After disposing of a pedestrian counter downtown, the law investigated some funny-tasting white powder found in a water cooler in a South Boston high school Wednesday afternoon.

The hazmat system around here is impressive. They had the people who drank the water tested, then they tested the water itself - only to find that the offending substance was Epsom salts. So some pranksters were probably trying to give their teachers and peers the runs. Oh, well. At least we know the system works, and some high school students probably had a day's worth of free entertainment.

--Do stabbing victims come in threes? After the triple stabbing at the CambridgeSide Galleria, three teenagers were stabbed at the Roxbury Crossing MBTA stop yesterday afternoon. They went straight to BPD headquarters.

The good news is that the BPD quickly rounded up the suspects. The bad news? A 13-year-old was one of those arrested and charged. It's not clear if they stabbed the victims, but the BPD did charge them with "Affray." A few more suspects may still be on the loose.

--And then there were the guys who thought they could take the cops. Early this morning, a crew of guys at the intersection of Tremont and Winter decided to fight back when a police officer ordered the guys to disperse. One tough guy refused to do so and started a fight with the officer.

The officer called for backup, and the tough guy's friends returned. Six guys were arrested, and they didn't go to jail without a fight: " The fracas went on for some time with several officers sustaining injuries and having to make use of their issued O.C. spray."

--Remember the burst of assaults on delivery guys? Well, some of the companies the delivery guys work for are pretty tough themselves. West End Pizza in Boston allegedly served up cocaine and guns. We wonder if they announced that deal on those annoying pizza mailers.

--After wondering about who forked over Bobby Brown's outstanding child-support money, we found out that a Maryland radio station paid it for him. Guess this episode won't give Bobby the chance to reconcile with Whitney after all.

All charges are alleged until proven under law.
