The Sunday Globe had a long profile of Bill Belichick - it's worth a read to see what makes the great man tick, but the most interesting part might be his former boss, Cleveland Browns owner* Art Modell saying "he felt 'like Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady,' trying to get Belichick to clean up his act." Which would make Belichick Eliza Doolittle. Try to get that image out of your head.
Maybe this will help cleanse the mental palate: both of our winter teams are on certified Hot Streaks. The Bruins tested backup goalie Joey MacDonald against the Devils, and he sparkled, leading the B's to a 4-1 victory at the Meadowlands. That's Boston Teams 2, Jersey Teams 0 in just over 24 hours, if you're keeping score. More importantly, the Bruins trail the Whalercanes by only four points for the coveted 8th spot.
Back home, the Celtics dug deep and fought off Minnesota 124-117 in double overtime. The C's spread their attack out, with Ryan Gomes doing most of the damage in the first half and Delonte West catching fire, scoring all of his 31 points after halftime. Al Jefferson played another solid game, mostly neutralizing Kevin Garnett and clobbering former Celtic ne'er-do-well Mark Blount on both ends of the court. That's four games in a row, and the Celtics are only 10 1/2 out of the playoffs. For whatever that's worth.
In Florida, Curt Schilling let his arm do the talking, going 3 1/3 strong innings in a win over the Twins. Maybe Boston teams just need to play opponents from New Jersey and Minnesota to right our collective ships.
*Browns owner, at least, until Modell ripped the Browns and the heart out of Cleveland.
