Sports Redux: In Our Own Words

With both local winter teams off Monday, all the local attention could focus on Globe writer Ron Borges, who was benched for two months for plagiarizing a Seattle writer in his Sunday football column. (Deadspin has the passages in question.) When asked for a quote, Borges said (not really): "'Tis a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done."

Good news in Florida, as Jon Lester got back on the mound after his 2006-season-ending cancer treatment. The main Grapefruit League game saw the Sox lose to the Dodgers 2-1. The Red Sox and Daisuke play the Florida Marlins today; the Marlins are not known to have any home-field advantage in spring training play.

While we were surfing Deadspin, we came across party photos of Peyton Manning, who was paid $200,000 for appearing at some girl's Sweet Sixteen party. Remember when Superbowl winners used to just go to Disney World? Bostonist is trying to decide who disgusts us more; the parents who paid 200 grand to see Peyton at their daughter's birthday party, or Peyton for taking it. We're leaning towards Peyton.

The Herald's Gerry Callahan lays out a case for the Patriots to sign mercurial wide receiver Randy Moss. I guess best-case scenario is Moss behaves and leads the Pats back to the Superbowl; worst-case is he doesn't behave and Callahan has ample material for his radio show.

The Bruins host Colorado tonight; the Celtics host Houston tomorrow. May the hot streaks continue!
