Obama Blotter

meet_barack_banner.jpgNever in the history of the blotter did we expect to have anything on Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who appears to be made of Teflon.

And he's still made of Teflon. But he has a few unpaid parking tickets that he might want to clear up, for old times' sake.

The Somerville News reported: "Obama’s disobedience of the rules of the road earned him $140 in fines from the City of Cambridge. The tickets went unpaid for over 17 years and $260 in late fees were added to the tab. On Jan. 26, the fines and late fees were paid in full."

The Herald ran with that and added: "Around the same time, he paid another $116 to the city of Somerville for 27-year-old excise tax bill and two parking gaffes, one for parking in a bus lane, the other a street cleaning fine, said City of Somerville spokesman Tom Champion."

The Herald immediately asked pundits if the revelation would hurt Obama's campaign, and their response was a resounding, "Are you kidding us?"

Seriously, if this is the only thing people can dig up on Obama, the guy might have it made. And have you tried to park in Cambridge? Heck, we applaud the guy for finding a place to park his car in the first place, on top of all the street-cleaning business. The ability to park in Cambridge is a sign of old-fashioned ingenuity that we could use in the White House!

I agree that Obama should be praised for his ability to find parking in Cambridge. That is not a task for the weak of heart.

I cannot believe you waste time and energy on something really nonesense. Do something positive, look around you and analyze ...think twice before writing. what are you talking about really ?

jeez. this is so not news. I can't believe that the local papers committed so much ink to a story about freaking parking tickets. it's grasping at straws.

to me it says he's a guy just like me, so i guess that's good. Who hasn't gotten a second or third notice on a parking ticket?

Considering all of the corruption involved within our government, I will vote for Obama for President in 2008. He's got my full endorsement.

I heard he was driving Ted Kennedy's car at the time -- JK!
