Photo of the Day: March 8, 2007

boston, commuter, T

I saw you on the T. You had style with your yellow purse, red shoes, fishnet stockings and a tatoo on your left leg. You didn't notice me. I had a camera in front of my face. Can we meet sometime? flickr user iamtonyang.

this photo with its identifying tattoo was taken two years ago. the unknowing subject is a friend of mine - i consider this creepy.

Creepy and stalkerish. A woman with her head decapitated, what would freud do?

sure freud would have a lot to say, but how much art did freud make?

anyone who takes photos is a little creepy and stalkerish (myself, a woman, included.) anytime you're taking a picture of a person, you're viewing them as an aesthetic object to some extent. isn't that partly what's fascinating about photography?

interesting irony: the photographer did not get the permission of the woman he photographed. this website did not notify the photographer they were linking to his photo.

i agree it's odd to call it 'photo of the day' when it was taken two years ago. and the photographer's name is spelled wrong. it should be "iamtonyang".

fini.

Please respect our intelligence. He claims "I had a camera in front of my face." when it's clear that this is a shot framed really wide from his lap while sitting down. He did not even had the courtesy of rising the camera to eye level. Check the EXIF. Really creepy.

I thought the photo was charming...headless and all. Maybe I have stalker taste. i added the caption ...playing off the idea of a personal ad since it was titled "Valentine's Day Commuter". i asked iamtonyang to add it to our "bostonist" pool and he did.

so you added a caption making it sound like the photographer was still pining over someone he photographed two years ago on the train. and in putting words in his mouth, you also made it sound like he lied about how he took the picture.
maybe in the future, you should make it clear that you are editorializing and not speaking for the photographer.
i appreciate imaginative narrative reading of pictures, but i think you should be careful to distnguish your words from the photographer's in the future.

i think "photo of the day" really just refers to the photo that is featured that day. conceivably it could be a photo 100 years old, or one just taken yesterday.

i love whining.

I ate an enchilada for dinner on Tuesday...I'm just saying.

Knowing tony on a personal level, I can safely say there's nothing creepy or stalker'ish about him. He's just a photographer trying to keep an eye out for what looks interesting. Get a grip people, jesus.

I agree with Joel. Tony is a photographer who see's the extraordinary among the mundane.
