The Click Five, Boston's skinny-tie clad power pop band, is down one lead singer. The Globe reported today that Eric Dill has left the band. While the rest of the band wished Dill luck in a statement, they were quick to remind fans that the first single off the band's sophomore release will be piped through radio speakers next month. They also joke -- oh how we hope they joke -- about "hot topless shots" of the yet-unannounced new singer.
Loretta Lynn will receive an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday. Few reports of this impending recognition note that this will actually be the second honorary doctorate for the coal miner's daughter -- she was awarded an honorary doctor of arts degree from the University of Kentucky in 2002. She wasn't able to accept that recognition in person, however, due to illness. For those keeping track, that brings her honors and awards to: two doctorates, four Grammys, seven American Music Awards, eight Broadcast Music Incorporated Awards, ten Academy of Country Music awards, an Academy of Country Music Artist of the Decade award, two music Hall of Fame nods, a Kennedy Center Honor, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In other words, not too shabby.
A shred-off is one thing, but a face-off within Boston's music set? Berklee's hockey team will take Brighton's Reilly Memorial Rink ice tomorrow to battle the Boston Rockers, a team led by WBCN's Music Director Shred that includes members of Super Genius, Jabe, Three Day Threshold and Ramblin' Souls. No slashes to the hands, guys.
