Ok, so let's say you're more into celebrity train-wrecks than college basketball Fafarazzi has some March Madness brackets just for you. We just went through and made our picks. It's a long shot but we're hoping for some unexpected nip-slip or Woody Allen fodder to get Scarlet Johansson to take the movie division. We've got her all the way to meet, and beat, Justin Timberlake in the Final Four in order to take on K-Fed for the Championship.
The Fafarazzi brackets work like any brackets, except these aren't games being played but Fafarazzi points earned. If you're not familiar Fafarazzi is a brilliant idea of a website, it was hatched not all that long ago in a Somerville basement. The site tracks mentions made of celebrities on popular gossip and celebrity websites. Generally the goal is to have a winning team, just like in any of the fantasy sports leagues, but here you need celebrities not athletes. But beware of the Celebrity news machine - Bono helping another country find peace isn't going to get as many mentions (and Fafarazzi points) as Britney getting wasted, getting sober, getting wasted, and then shaving her head – so strategy is important.
The brackets are split into four divisions: Music, Television, Movies, and Socialites & Weirdos. They're seeded by the spots they're occupying in the Fafarazzi leagues, the top 64 celebs were chosen and rated accordingly. Be warned – tough choices like Michael Jackson or Pam Anderson await. Bostonist has set up a pool. You're welcome to join. You will be required to sign up for a free account with Fafarazzi, and the Bostonist pool is free. To top it all off we're giving away a Bostonist t-shirt to the winner of the pool. Hurry up – tip off is March 15 at 8 am, no new brackets can be submitted after then.
