Sports Redux: The Other March Madness

umass_minutement.gifWe're eagerly waiting to see how our local NCAA matchups shake out. Boston College takes on Texas Tech and Bobby Knight tomorrow, and Holy Cross faces off against Southern Illinois on Friday. In the other big college basketball tournament, the NIT, the UMass Minutemen defeated Alabama in overtime 89 to 87. They'll advance into the next round to play West Virginia.

So let's not forget the NIT in the face of March Madness. Speaking of, what would you call NIT bracketmania? Narch Nadness? We've seen "Little Dance," but that doesn't have enough oomph. Hmmm … Any thoughts are appreciated.

The Pats bought themselves yet another receiver - Kelley Washington, formerly of Cincinnati. Is it just us, or is this receiver overload? A fun fact about the addition of Washington - he used to play with Donte' Stallworth at the University of Tennessee, but that doesn't mean they liked each other.

And did anyone else see that former NBA player John Amaechi has become the first gay male athlete to endorse a product? He'll be endorsing a head-shaving razor. We saw him on the Daily Show, and his skull was quite tidy. We look forward to the day when gay male athletes endorsing products is so normal that it doesn't make headlines.

Oh, and the Celtics lost to the Bulls, 95 to 87. You're not doing all that well when Ben Wallace is scoring up a storm.

can we get coach Cal and Lou Roe/Marcus Camby back on the team. A final four berth is a final four berth in my book - even if cars, ladies, and other gifts helped keep Camby motivated.
