The Brattle's Hot Fuzztival

hot-fuzz.jpgThe Brattle will kick off the "Hot Fuzztival" today, Friday, March 16. To get a pass to the screening of Hot Fuzz on Sunday, March 25, you'll need to see one of the "fuzztastic" movies picked by the Hot Fuzz filmmakers. It can't be that hard, can it?

First of all, not matter how much Hot Fuzz sounds like a porno flick, it's not what you think.

The team behind Shaun of the Dead has returned with the tough-cop spoof Hot Fuzz, which will be previewing at the Brattle. Shaun of the Dead was a horror-movie spoof so good that it should have made the Scary Movie team weep behind closed doors. It was side-splitting, gory, positively insane, and still perfectly British.

If you want to see this movie - and you definitely want to see this movie - you need to see one of the many movies that inspired the spoof, which the Brattle will be screening for your pleasure. Here's the schedule:

Friday, March 16: 5:00, 9:30 - Dirty Harry / 7:15 - The French Connection
Saturday, March 17: 2:30 - The French Connection / 5:00, 9:30 - Dirty Harry
Sunday, March 18: 7:45, 10:00 - Lethal Weapon
Monday, March 19: 5:00, 7:30, 10:00 - Hard Boiled
Tuesday, March 20: 5:30 - Hard Boiled
Wednesday, March 21: 5:30, 7:30, 9:30 - Super Cops
Sunday, March 25: 5:30 pm - preview of Hot Fuzz with cast included

In Hot Fuzz, a top London cop is so bloody good at his job that other cops reassign him to a boring hamlet where he's partnered with a shlump. However, after several suspicious deaths, the top cop notices that the town's accident rate is sky-high compared to the murder rate, and, eventually, he gleefully tackles the challenge. And we have a funny feeling that "Good morning, the swan's escaped" is going to be spring's new deadpan catchphrase. Here's the trailer:

More fuzz-filled movies will follow in the Brattle's series. If you still want to make the preview of Hot Fuzz but can't see the earlier movies, just bring your ticket printout for one of the post-Fuzz flicks, and you'll get a pass. One of the later movies is Infernal Affairs - which provided the basis for The Departed.
