--First it was tainted spinach. Then it was tainted peanut butter. Now it's tainted pet food. Some dogs and cats have been vomiting after eating wet pet food. About 10 pets died.
Since the manufacturer, Menu Foods, is such a big player in the market, this impacts many brands. So if your pet prefers cuts and gravy, you might want to switch to the dry stuff until this gets cleared up. Fido might howl about it, but you'd rather have Fido howling than dead.
Right now, the pet food is sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, and Kroger store brands, according to the AP.
If you serve your pet Iams and Eukanuba, then you will probably need to buy new pet food: "P&G announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products bear the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, P&G said."
A full list of the brands being recalled is being assembled by Menu Foods right now, so check their site if you have any questions. You would be surprised by how long the recall list is.
--More is emerging about the homeless couple who was found burned in Roxbury. The Globe had a moving piece in which they interviewed the couple's friends and offered details of their daily life. The two had been joking about getting married. The article really captured the difficulties of mental illness, addiction, and life on the streets.
If you read the Herald's piece, you'd wonder if they were discussing the same people. The Herald had a headline that, well, only the Herald could write: "Homeless Woman Sets Self, Pal's Privates Aflame." Sometimes we get fresh, but that really takes the cake.
