We can't make fun of Senate President Robert Travaglini, lovingly known as "T-Vag," anymore. T-Vag (not to be confused with "T-Weed" of I Love New York fame) has announced that he's leaving that he is leaving the guv'mint for a higher-paying job.
$90,000 dollars a year wasn't enough for him, so he's moving on to bigger and better things. The Globe says T-Vag will launch "a lobbying company that would help clients navigate the political thickets of City Hall, state government, and the State House." Pardon us, but how is that different from any garden-variety political job?
T-Vag will most likely be replaced by Senator Therese Murray, which has us singing "T-Murray," even if it doesn't quite have the same zing. She would be the first female leader of the legislature, which is pretty cool.
According to the Globe, "Murray's rise to power would be welcomed by human service advocates, gay marriage backers, and union leaders who were often frustrated by Travaglini's more moderate or conservative positions." Looks like some of the moderates/conservatives/wafflers will be sad to see T-Vag go, but Murray's rise could be great for the left. Posting at Blue Mass Group, Charley on the MTA once called T-Vag "old-school, old Beacon Hill, old-culture." His leaving for a new gig might bring a little fresh air into the legislature.
Governor Deval Patrick will also probably be waving gleefully as T-Vag walks out the door. T-Vag warned the governor to work with the legislature or else. Vague threats might work in boardrooms, but they don't need to happen in the Legislature.
