Google is looking at property in the Boston area for a new hub in the Hub. The Herald reported earlier this week that Google was looking for 100,000 to 200,000 square feet of office space in either Boston or Cambridge to launch a new operations center on the East Coast. The rumors of the Google invasion have come to Bostonist via emails and our tipline – while we can't substantiate any of them the job listings to indicate that there are at least 16 positions being advertised for the search and just-about-everything-else-internet giant available.
There are a number of properties available in the Kendall Square area near MIT and it's likely that Google is looking at those spots to house their new operations. It would not be surprising that they'd locate close to one of the countries leading technical institutions. The labor pool is available and the interns they'd be able to secure from MIT and Harvard seem limitless for a Cambridge location. Boston isn't out of the question, however. Kendall is only a short walk over the Longfellow from Boston proper and has easy access to the T's Red Line. The Kendall Square Area saw a boon to the real estate market in the late nineties before the tech bubble burst, a significant presence by Google could help to reinvigorate the area by providing a center for high-tech jobs in the area. Google wasn't ready to comment on the rumors when the Herald inquired – but with all the attention they seem to be getting around the internets it's not likely that they'll be silent for long. If you're looking for more information on the possible expansion of Google to Boston we might suggest that you just "Google it."
