The mayor is going on a PR burst to assure the city's residents that everything is under control. Unfortunately, those words are ringing hollow.
The Globe was there when Menino spoke to the congregation at the Morning Star Baptist Church: "There are good things happening. Let's not focus on the negatives."
Sure, accentuate the positive! When young men are getting shot in the head on the bus! And sixteen people have been murdered! Hey, at least we're not as bad as St. Louis!
Usually, the mayor is known for his "nuts and bolts" approach to the city's problems, and he needs to be getting "nuts and bolts" about this violence because his words sure didn't stop another man from getting shot on Angell Street last night.
--Timothy McGuire, a man from Pennsylvania, went missing in Roxbury but was found this afternoon. The BPD posted an announcement and people were worried because McGuire suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, but this is one missing-persons case that ended well.
--And in "advice to criminals" news, if you have three outstanding warrants, don't stop by the police station to pick up your lost wallet.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of "Metal Machine Music," which we still think of when we hear the mayor speak, from allmusic.com.
