Bill Bradley will be reading from The New American Story at the First Church in Cambridge Congregational UCC at 6:30 pm tomorrow, Wednesday, April 4, 2007. Ticket prices for Harvard Book Store events are going up to $5. On the bright side, you can use the $5 as a coupon for a purchase at the store.
As a basketball star turned politician, Bill Bradley would be extraordinary no matter how you cut it. He's successful at everything except being president in 2000. His record isn't half bad.
We'd like to hear what he thinks about the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates. We imagine he's skeptical since his book suggests that the Democrats have been too busy looking for a hero.
But Bradley, who ran for president against Al Gore, would have been happy if the whole nation had found a hero in Gore. He told the New York Times in an interview, "I wish Gore had been president. It could have saved us a lot of heartache. Iraq is the worst foreign-policy mistake in my lifetime. It dwarfs Vietnam."
No wonder Bradley feels the need to write about politics now, even though he's now a regular citizen. The stakes are high. His book is being promoted as a "call to action," and his reading is likely to stir you up if you're feeling disheartened.
Also, bring a little more cash with you if you decide to pick up Bradley tickets. Harvard Book Store ticket prices are going up to $5. If you think that burns up your pocketbook, you'll get a $5 coupon in return to put toward a purchase at Harvard Book Store.
