Boston Blotter: Not-So-Party Line

040407_party_line.jpg --The BPD has instituted a "Party Line" against improper after-hours parties. Chiara Levin died after one of those parties, but loud parties don't kill people. Guns and the people who shoot them kill people. Maybe the people who hold those parties should be more selective when it comes to their guest list. But, if you think your neighbor is "Keeping a Disorderly House" in BPD lingo, and you're fed up by the racket, call 617-343-5500. If you think your neighbor is "Keeping a Disorderly House" and carrying a weapon, call 911.

--Mayor Menino met with Governor Deval Patrick last night to see how the governor can help stop the violence on the streets. Patrick said he would send money for more police officers and summer job programs. What we'd really like is the return of funding for the Shannon Community Safety Initiatives, or the antigang efforts that are now in jeopardy.

But solving this crime crisis (yes, it is a crisis, Mr. Governor and Mr. Mayor, and denial ain't a river in Egypt) is going to cost money, and that money will be hard to get. Patrick said, "I don’t know yet whether that money is available. I’m going to go see if I can find it in the next couple of days and if I can, then I’m going to ask the Legislature.”

--Northeastern has had a run of terrible luck. Two students have died, one of them in a snow-tubing accident, and another in an accident in a local bar. 21-year-old Jacob Freedman fell down stairs in Our House East on Sunday and suffered a head injury so serious that his family took him off life support. The owner of the bar told Northeastern's student paper that it was a "tragic freak accident."

--Someone's been setting fires at St. Stephen's Church in Framingham, and it seems that the torcher may be a 12-year-old. This 12-year-old has been awfully busy: "A Jesus statue was ripped off a crucifix and it's right arm was broken off. A statue of the Virgin Mary was also damaged."

All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of Hayley Mills on the party line from the Parent Trap DVD cover on Amazon.
