Pot and Kettle: Both Black

sec_galvin.jpgLast week Secretary of State William Galvin took it to Governor Deval Patrick by calling him out for the privacy concerns he had with the newly launched devalpatrick.com. Today the media grabbed a story about Galvin's official site which holds enough information for identity thieves to make off with a sweet steal. Social security numbers, bank account numbers, along with name, phone number and address are listed on the Secretary's site and available on the site relating to the filings for the Uniform Commercial Code – necessary for obtaining a loan.

The information is readily available on the website and confirmed by the AP. Chiding Patrick for his campaign website that listed the address of voters, easily searchable, was a good move for governmental accountability – until we learned that Galvin was a worse offender. The information provided on the Secretary's site could potentially compromise anyone who had obtained a loan in the Commonwealth. Galvin said his office is in the process of removing the sensitive information and providing new software on the site – but will not remove the information in the interim. When Galvin called out the DevalPatrick.com site for their misuse of private information it seemed to disappear overnight, Galvin isn't turning around as quickly to make sure his site is up to the same standards.

Image is William Galvin looking smug on his mass.gov web page. Funny thing we could of sworn that both Deval Patrick and William Galvin had a (D) following their name in the news. Who is not inviting whom, to whose democratic party?
