Boston Blotter: Money, Money Edition

twenty-dollar.jpg--A bank robbery happened in West Roxbury yesterday, followed by a wild police chase in Dedham. A woman in her 20s did the usual routine of handing a note to a teller and getting some cash.

But that's not the exciting part. As she left the Hyde Park Savings Bank, she hopped into a red mini-van (a mini-van as a getaway car?). A bold off-duty police office followed in hot pursuit. The officer got off a shot, but the suspects were able to get out of the van and escape. The BPD took full advantage of the Internet by posting surveillance video of the woman.

--Governor Patrick is coming to the rescue with some crime-fighting cash. The Herald reports, "Patrick proposes to use $2 million of the state’s budget to bolster anti-crime programs in Boston - including some cash to add rank-and-file cops to the BPD’s dwindling ranks."

--Speaking of boots on the ground, Ed Davis has decided the Guardian Angels might not be so bad after all. He met with Curtis Sliwa and the Angels yesterday. They're going to be carrying police radios, so it will be harder for people to commit crimes – more people will be watching and can get in touch with the BPD faster.

--Is there a Consumer Reports for johns? Because someone out there is definitely an unsatisfied customer. Some guy called the BPD claiming that a woman offered him sex for a fee of 15 dollars, which sounds shadier than anything off a fast-food dollar menu. The man should have been suspicious, but he forked over the fifteen, and she took off without providing him with what he paid for.

Expecting mighty good service for his 15 dollars, he called police. Yes, this guy was dumb enough to call police on himself. The officers got the woman for Unarmed Robbery, and they also got the guy for Sex for a Fee.

All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of a twenty-dollar bill from Flickr user redjar.
