--More information has emerged about one of the victim's during one of last Friday's many shootings. James Jacobs was an Army veteran who was shot and killed not in Iraq, where he fought, but in Dorchester.
He was also going to school for an engineering degree. This is the kind of thing that makes you sick - someone who was making a contribution, who was fighting for us, was likely gunned down by some stupid, ridiculous beef. His mother said he was shot 18 times in the back.
--Turns out that
Boston will get $900,000 toward fighting crime, with $550,000 going towards hiring new police officers. Of course, the hiring depends on if the BPD can actually recruit the warm bodies. The AP reports: "The governor will propose legislation that requires tighter supervision of all inmates released from prison, limits Massachusetts residents to one gun purchase per month and widens bail rules to promote pretrial jailing of people charged with gun crimes."
--A large group of teenagers may have committed a horrible hate crime in South Boston. They are accused of stabbing and beating up two homeless Hispanic men and saying, "We don't want Spanish here." It looks like the police will throw the book at them. One representative said, "It's certainly not indicative of Southie at all."
Yeah, well, who cares if it makes South Boston look bad? Hate crimes shouldn't be happening at all. Instead of worrying about South Boston's image, maybe they should worry more about making sure it never happens again.
