Boston Blotter: Number Five at Newton?

short_circuit_175.jpg--Newton brought out the bomb squad when someone spotted some suspicious backpacks on a fence at Newton North High School. The backpacks were stuffed with newspaper and $1 dollar bills, and they promoted some website called b4class.com.

townonline.com has pictures of their bomb-testing robot, which reminds us of Number Five from Short Circuit.

Of course, people are thinking "Aqua Teen!" and having Berdvosky/Stevens flashbacks, but at least the Aqua Teen campaign was somewhat creative. Dumping a bunch of backpacks filled with newspaper and spare singles strikes us as lazy.

--A Barnstable doctor was arrested for shooting and killing her own husband.

The Cape Cod Times reported that Dr. Ann Gryboski's record was near-perfect except that the police visited twice because their dogs got noisy. Stay tuned for more. Murders like these usually get a follow-up.

--Police officers in Lynn had an ugly afternoon yesterday after having to deal with "suspected car thieves" and pit bulls.

The police arrested six people, but one of the officers was attacked by a pit bull. Another well-intentioned officer shot at the pit bull with real bullets after "rubber projectiles" didn't work. Unfortunately, instead of hitting the pit bull, he shot his colleague in the leg.

--And, last but not least, still no word on what caused the fire at the former Danvers State Mental Hospital and soon-to-be Luxury Apartment Complex.
