Sports Redux: Red Sox, Large Beekeeper Step Up
A lot was at stake last night for the Red Sox. They had to avoid a sweep from the Texas Rangers, and Curt Schilling needed to prove himself after his unfortunate first outing against the Kansas City Royals. Prove himself he did. Despite some shaky moments from reliever Javier Lopez, Jonathan Papelbon came out and got the job done, helping the Red Sox defeat the Rangers 3 to 2.
Even better, Big Papi hit two homers. It seems like the Red Sox we know and love have finally shown up for the season.
And we're a week away from the Boston Marathon. We can talk and talk about how talented athletes are, but endurance is everything, and we're saving our propers for the winner of the Marathon.
And THIS dude.
Jacob is a beekeeper from Wisconsin who is a little on the hefty side. In a bold move, he has decided to lose weight by training for the Boston Marathon, and he's documenting his progress online to the music of Journey (thus allowing us to get in yet another reference to Journey!).
Here's a sample from his FAQ:
Q: Isn't losing that much weight so fast really unhealthy for you? (From My Heart)
A: No more unhealthy than cutting myself during a "My Super Sweet 16" Marathon.
Yeah, we'd take Heartbreak Hill over My Super Sweet 16 any day of the week. He's lost 80 pounds so far, and we're going to be shouting for Jacob in the marathon.

Not only is Jacob committed to losing weight for charity, he is also fundraising for three fantastic organizations!
American Cancer Society
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
Special Olympics
Hats off to Jacob!
