What do two guys from the greater Boston area talk about on late night television? Easter candy of course. Last week B.J. Novak, a Newton native and star of the office, was on Late Night with Conan O'Brien (Conan's from Brookline and is a Harvard alum.) B.J. was on Conan to promote his new movie Rain Over Me but like many late night TV interviews it took a little while to get there. They started with talk of B.J. appearing in the Boston Globe (well, his left ear anyway, behind Jim Carey) watching a Celtics v. Lakers game in L.A., moved on to some guy named Pete, and made it to the expose of the interview that's been making big buzz on the internets. B.J. may have gotten bigger - but the eggs have actually gotten smaller.
He held up two eggs: one he'd kept fresh in the freezer just for those fall easter candy cravings and the other from this years crop of bunny-laid eggs. The current egg was clearly smaller. At first we dismissed it thinking he was pulling a fast one on us and had a mini-creme egg and a full sized creme egg, until we had the chance to watch it again on YouTube where he clearly states it's not a mini-creme egg. Consumerist followed up on the story and provided the relevant wikipedia research which reports the new sized eggs are 12.3% smaller (citation needed, natch.) The moral of this story is that yankee thrift hitting up those after-easter 50% off sales will really suit you well. Not only will you save half off of the regular retail, in the case of the Cadbury creme egg, you'll also maintain the full size of the treat. The side by side comparison is screen-grabbed above, the youtube posting of the clip embedded below (the full interview is also available on those internets).
