NECCO Irks New Mexico
NECCO, the New England Confectionary Company in Revere, might get sued by a New Mexico family. The Tapias of Santa Fe claim their son bit into a NECCO chocolate marshmallow egg and cut his tongue on a razor blade.
Of course, we've heard of all the urban legends about dangerous objects in food. They are often hoaxes, such as the legendary finger-in-the-Wendy's-chili incident. But we'll wait to see what the investigation reveals.
NECCO isn't overreacting, either. A Santa Fe paper reports that "Necco candies does not plan a recall because no one at the company has seen the candy or even a picture of it." The Santa Fe police captain said he hadn't seen the carton in person, either, just the pictures.
Based on the dates offered by the paper, it seems that the candy in question was purchased back on April 1. While the April Fools' Day purchase doesn't mean anything, one must admit that it's an interesting coincidence.
