Last night, the Red Sox absolutely tore up the Orange County Angels - whoops, the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles, 10 to 1.
The Wakefield-Mirabelli machine was in top form. Pitcher Tim Wakefield pitched a beautiful game, allowing only one run, and catcher Doug Mirabelli surprised everyone, hitting a home run. That homer galvanized the Red Sox, and everything went downhill for the Angels. When Jonathan Papelbon arrived at the plate mound to close, he took down Vladimir Guerrero.
Even with the Red Sox's losses, last night's game offered a glimpse of what might happen later in the season. When everyone's clicking and in a good mood (rare for Manny Ramirez and Brendan Donnelly), this team could be unstoppable.
Speaking of good moods, NESN caught a glimpse of Julian Tavarez and Daisuke Matsuzaka buddying up last night. Of course, Tavarez was speaking primarily in hand gestures, but Matsuzaka laughed like he got the joke.
--In less exciting news, the Celtics lost to the Bucks last night, 102 to 104. Even though they lost, Gerald Green and Leon Powe got a chance to show off a little bit as the high scorers of the evening.
With that loss, they just moved a little closer to Kevin Durant - and maybe Greg Oden, whose dad declared that the Ohio State star will enter the draft. But, if the Celtics are losing on purpose (we say "if" only because they play sloppy, anyway), we kind of hope that the Celtics don't get their precious draft pick and actually have to get to work next season.
