--Today is the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Coco Crisp was scheduled to honor Robinson by wearing the number 42.
Big Papi and third-base coach DeMarlo Hale were also planning to wear Robinson's number. The game has been postponed, so we imagine that they'll make up the tribute soon.
--The Red Sox took down the Orange County Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim yesterday 8 to 0. Yes, we know their real name is the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" - the point is that the team name is especially unwieldy. But it would be up to LAist to petition for a name fix.
Curt Schilling, who pitched a great game, posted a detailed recap. He also had something to say about the early Red Sox game on Boston Marathon Day:
No idea what the next two days will bring both schedule and weather wise, but it’s not looking to good. I still can’t believe we’re actually playing a game that starts at 10am, but we are. This has to be the ONLY city on the planet that sells out its ballpark for a pre-noon game start. Unreal.
--Speaking of "unreal," the weather folk are giddily warning viewers of a Nor'easter, which could make marathon running and viewing more uncomfortable.
If you plan on watching, the MBTA has kindly posted more information about which stations will be closed and which stations will be open on Marathon Day.
If you plan on watching, but you don't want to leave the house, you can watch the televised marathon on cable on Versus from 9:30 to 12:30, and you can watch it locally on WBZ from 8 am to 3 pm.
