Emmanuel Prof Talks and Talks on YouTube

emmanuel.gifWe're a little late with this one, but we had to mention this incident from Emmanuel College. What took place wasn't a crime, but it will forever be marked in the Annals of Poor Taste.

An adjunct professor at Emmanuel College re-enacted the Virginia Tech massacre in class – using dry-erase markers. He did it to make the pro-gun point that the Virginia Tech shooter could have been stopped if another student had a gun, but it didn't matter what side of the fence he was on. The school fired him immediately following the demonstration.

In the aftermath of his dismissal, Winset has been complaining that society is too "politically correct." He doesn't think the firing was fair, but he teaches financial accounting, so whatever he did doesn't seem to have fit into the standard financial accounting syllabus … unless financial accounting has gone all new math.

He also posted a lengthy defense of himself on YouTube. It's in four parts. We listened to it, and it went on and on into territory that had nothing to do with the demonstration. He showed off the accent he had while growing up in Jamaica, and then he talked about the time he spanked himself in class and called himself "Bad teacher!" The YouTube video alone might make Emmanuel College think they made the right decision.

You are 75% wrong on this one. His speech should be protected. If a student felt threatened, they should take a basic acting class, in which they understand re-enactments to make a valid statistical point are not threatening. They are enlightening.

Wow that dude's vids are dull. I think he would have just gotten fired for crappy teaching anyway.
