Boston Blotter: Once a Jailblazer …

042507_telfair.jpgThis should come as no surprise - Sebastian Telfair has been given the heave by the Celtics organization after getting arrested on another gun charge in Yonkers.

Wyc Grousbeck e-mailed the press to announce that the organization removed Telfair's nameplate from the lockers. Telfair has pleaded not guilty, and he says that the gun was registered to Telfair's wife. That was Telfair's explanation the last time he was caught with a gun when he was with the Portland Trailblazers.

We must wonder, though - if his season average were higher than 6.1 points per game, would the Celtics have removed his nameplate as quickly?

However, getting Telfair off the team won't be as easy as removing the nameplate. Shira Springer notes that dismissing Telfair will be costly: "If the Celtics cut Telfair, they will owe him the $2.56 million he is slated to make next season. If the Celtics try to nullify his contract, it will likely cost more in legal fees and aggravation than it is worth. A trade seems to be the best option, though it undoubtedly has become more difficult."

The Celtics have been keeping their lawyers busy. On the bright side, the Redux reports that Tony Allen is off the hook for an aggravated battery charge. No wonder the Celtics didn't play well! They spent too much time in the courtroom!

--Along with all the other violence on Monday, the BPD posted about another incident that unfolded on Monday night. At least it didn't involve a machete or a hatchet, but a 17-year-old man got shot in the lip in Roxbury.

--In dumb criminal news, a 60-year-old shoplifter was doing her thing at Marshall's in Braintree, and she happened to have her 8-year-old niece with her. When approached by the authorities, she was so worried about getting caught that she tried to run off and left the niece. Can you say "DSS"?

--Police aren’t above the law, either. A police officer will resign from the force after shooting one of his own colleagues. On June 22 of last year, Paul Durkin shot Joseph Behnke during an off-duty argument.

Durkin was angry because Behnke said he was too drunk to drive. He was clearly too drunk to exercise common sense when it came to his gun. Luckily, Behnke lived, but Durkin pled guilty and is off the force.

All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of Through the Fire book cover from Amazon.
