HeyLetsGo Went. Going is the New Black

goingdotcom.jpgA startup by some MIT grads started making waves a year ago when they began putting some venture capital to use to build their social networking site. After a year of growth some issues arose with their name, coincidentally with their expansion from Boston into New York City and the Bay Area. HeyLetsGo was to be no more; they were looking for a new name. Today they announced their new identity: Going.com.

Going is looking to brand themselves as the new events-based social networking website. The website functions the same as they had when they were HeyLetsGo – users submit events they're interested in and a team of editors augments the list with their picks. When we first heard about HeyLetsGo they were throwing free parties, nothing ever came with a fee. Over the last year the free events have disappeared in favor of events that have a cover charge, usually discounted for HeyLetsGo members. Today, with the change to Going.com the site has brought back the free – and it's not only free admission this time but an actual free ride. Going.com has partnered with JetBlue to provide a lucky winner of their most recent contest with a free roundtrip flight from Boston to San Francisco or New York City to attend the exclusive launch concert. Winners will be selected from those who RSVP for the concert. Seeing Teddy Bears in San Fran or Albert Hammond Jr. in New York City can be totally free if you RSVP for the show and are selected as the winner, it will cost you airfare or a $15 Fung Wah ride if you don't win the contest.
