Pity the poor Orioles. Their fan base is disgruntled and apathetic, and Baltimore is a mere short flight down from New England. Thus, Sox-Orioles games at Camden Yards turn into travelling Red Sox rallies. They can't even sing "root, root, root for the home team" during the seventh-inning stretch. In front of a friendly crowd, the Red Sox got back on track, beating the ostensible home team 6-1.
Curt Schilling pitched seven efficient, solid innings, but so did Birds starter Daniel Cabrera. It was tied at one until the top of the seventh, but the Sox' patience finally was rewarded in the form of the beleaguered Baltimore bullpen, who helped turn a nailbiter into a comfy victory. Josh Beckett goes against potential phenom Adam Loewn tonight before the Yankee rivalry renews in the Bronx on Friday.
Trying to seem relevant, the Orioles broadcast team is trying to fan the flames of rumors that Schilling's infamous bloody sock in 2004 was a hoax. Doug Mirabelli was implicated as a narc; Doug vehemently denies this. Even current Oriole and key 2004 guy Kevin Millar says the blood was legit. We guess Baltimore needs to stir up rivalries somehow.
You know those stupid bets mayors make before big games? Well, the Buffalo News is incensed that NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg isn't even bothering to make a stupid wager before the Rangers-Sabres playoff series. A spokesman for Buffalo mayor Byron Brown even took a well-deserved shot at the fact that some New York sports teams don't even play in New York. Bostonist may have finally decided who we want to win the Stanley Cup. Go Sabres!
Finally, in all the hoopla building towards this weekend's NFL Draft, it's been noticed that Albany State running back Antonio Atkins is the lowest-ranked of 145 eligible running backs on ESPN's Draft Board. He's not likely to rise in the rankings, either, as he was killed breaking into a house last April. This would have been 40,000 times funnier if ESPN had him ranked 144th. But we still promise to laugh when the Raiders pick him.

I LOVE going to Sox games at Camden. Walking around Baltimore early on game days is hilarious - "Wait, there's an Orioles shirt in the sea of red and blue. Weird..." Not to mention that everyone in the park treats you like royalty.
A few years ago, I was in Baltimore as part of a mini-road trip, and my folks flew down for a couple days to go to the game. Waiting in the arrivals lounge was unbelievable - the crowd getting off that plane looked exactly like the crowd getting off the Green Line at Kenmore.
