Too Mutch: BC Coach Resigns in Sex Scandal

bc-eagle.JPGBoston College lets us know that women's ice hockey is actually rather hot. Tom Mutch, the women's ice hockey coach resigned yesterday following allegations of sexual misconduct."

This is quite a change for Mutch, who helped bring the Eagles to this year's Frozen Four.

The Heights describes the misconduct of which Mutch is accused: "Allegations have surfaced suggesting that the former coach, 39, was involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with Eagles Rookie of the Year Kelli Stack, 19. Sources claim that one of Stack's teammates discovered a collection of sexually explicit text messages to Mutch stored in Stack's cell phone."

While we are hardly fans of coach-player relationships, we must wonder what this teammate was doing snooping in Stack's cell phone. The Herald said Stack "gave" the phone to a teammate, but it takes a little effort to access archived text messages, doesn't it? And, despite the power differential, Stack is an adult.

If you want the dirty details, the Herald quotes an anonymous source as saying the text messages were "filthy." The Herald also dug up the fact that Mutch would sing "Like a Virgin" to his players.

The Globe notes that, if the allegations are true, Mutch has a history of dating players. Mutch was assistant coach for the gold-medal 1998 US women's hockey team – and his current wife was a member of that team.
