Boston Blotter: The Public Policeman's Ball!

042807_secret_policemans_ball.jpg--It's nice to see happy police news. The BPD had a very public Seniors Ball on Friday, and they posted the images on BPD News.

--Police were probably even happier yesterday after they took down a guy who was toting a gun and steroids - now that's a dangerous cocktail! Police pulled over the 4-foot-2 criminal on Westland Street because he stole a friend's handgun, and they discovered not only the handgun but also the steroids.

--Four Harvard students were arrested Thursday night because they were protesting a speech from FBI director Robert Mueller.

One of the protesters yelled, “We will never forget the role of the FBI in McCarthyism!” But Max Bazerman, a professor who didn't get arrested, asked Mueller a good question in light of the Bush Administrations, uh, issues: "'I trust you, but how do we trust the government when we know they’ve lied to us?” The Crimson didn't print Mueller's answer.

--After Marilyn Devaney's alleged curling-iron attack on a beauty-store employee, other local political scandals seem tame. But we're still impressed with former Methuen mayor Sharon Pollard, who has just paid a fine for giving city money to the Methuen Festival of Trees.

The main problem with Pollard's donation was that she founded the Methuen Festival of Trees, so it looked an awful lot like she was treating the town as her personal piggy bank. She has since returned the money.
