Boston Blotter: Red Sox Fan on the Loose!

051407_fenway_bullpen.jpg--Red Sox fans are known for their passion. But, last night, one fan went too far. A guy from East Haven broke all the boundaries and jumped onto the field at Fenway Park last night, trying to rush the Red Sox bullpen before the BPD corralled him. He told police he was trying to "impress" his 7-year-old son. The son might have been confused if he saw his own dad in cuffs.

--More good news! As funding has flowed in for 70 police officers, the BPD might be able to pick and choose. The number of recruits has gone up, as reported today in the Globe. Various ethnic groups are also well represented in the latest pool of recruits, which will help the BPD establish connections and build trust. Now if only they can cut down on renegade cops like Jose Ortiz.

--A real head-scratcher of a crime unfolded in Brighton yesterday morning. A man claims that he saw a knife sticking out of an electrical pole and tried to remove it. He wound up with burns to 30 percent of his body, and power went out for an hour.

However, the cable was made of copper, and you know how people are about copper around here. The BPD indicated its own skepticism of the man's story with its headline: "Man Electrocuted 'Removing Knife From Electrical Cable.' " You can make your own air quotes at home.

All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of the wacky dad's target – the Fenway Park bullpen – from wallyg on Wikimedia Commons.
