Today's City Council Election: A Quick Primer

051407_passoni.jpgDid you know there was an election today? Bill Linehan and Susan Passoni are up for the late Jimmy Kelly's District 2 seat on the City Council, which represents South Boston, South End, and Chinatown.

Their Backgrounds
Linehan: Lifelong City Hall employee. More South Boston than South End.
Passoni: Used to be a financial analyst. More South End than South Boston.

Insider/Outsider Status
Linehan: Insider thanks to the City Hall pedigree.
Passoni: Outsider

Moving City Hall
Linehan: Undecided
Passoni: No

The Infamous Bio Lab
Linehan: Yes, if the right precautions are taken.
Passoni: No.

051407_linehan.jpgThe Website
Linehan: Nice, but the "News" and "Photo" sections still say "Coming Soon." And now would be the time for him to shout his positions to the skies.
Passoni: Well-organized with a clearly labeled "Issues" section.

Endorsements
Linehan: If you read below, it looks like Linehan is getting whipped in the endorsement department. However, most of the endorsements give him credit, and he might be winning if he were running against anyone else.
Passoni: Passoni has appeal precisely because she hasn't worked in City Hall and might be able to shake things up. The Phoenix, Bay Windows, The Globe, The Herald. Wait - did the Globe and the Herald agree?

What They Have in Common
Even though Linehan comes off as old school, they have a lot in common, actually. And both lost to Jimmy Kelly.
