Merely Cute Pianists Need Not Apply

79738972_3543388cc4_m.jpgBostonist enjoys taking a stroll through the music community section of Craigslist every now and then. It's always entertaining to see how the rockers are describing their sounds these days (today's listings, for example, include "baby makin' music" and "a blend of indie rock with break beats") and sometimes we happen across something that otherwise would have flown under our radar.

We're curious about whether there will be more responses posted to one of today's highlights, an open call titled "ATTRACTIVE, MALE PIANIST WANTED!!!"

I'm an attractive female vocalist looking to team up with a talented and handsome male pianist. I am a professionally trained, educated singer, who has been performing for years. I am for real, not some female who thinks she has a good voice. I have been approached by restaurant owners and event planners who want to hire me for consistent gigs. It has been suggested that I find a male who not only plays the piano extremely well, but also has a "look" that audiences are drawn to.

Now, truth be told, the look of today's music is popping up a lot in the media these days - CNN recently published an article discussing how female musicians in particular have to be hot in order to sell their tunes. So perhaps this anonymous talent is facing the facts.

But if that's the case, why doesn't she go all out and specify the "look" she's looking for? Edgy rock look? Emo? Jazzy or cabaret? Are the guys expected to send a headshot? And, for our industry readers, is this normal? We're curious.

Far be it for us to not do what we can to bring two beautiful people together to make gorgeous music together - perhaps in a few months, we'll start hearing about the on-the-rise Brad and Angelina of Boston's music scene.

Personally, though, we're thinking that if there's going to be a real musical connection, our self-dubbed good-looking vocalist ought to just send out a call for a guy who has a gift for tickling the ivories.

Bostonist searched flickr for "hot" and "pianist." This image from flickr user addon came up.
