Car and bus commutes through Downtown Boston were a nightmare this morning, thanks to a big hole.
At approximately 7:00 a.m., a major water main broke, blasting a 10 foot by 20 foot crater in Blackstone Street.
The break occurred near Haymarket Square, a.k.a. - "where all the new Big Dig streets and exits are, so no one knows where the hell they're going, anyway."
Needless to say, traffic has been a mess all day. If you must drive through town today, away from that area if you can, my gas-guzzling friends.
Blackstone Street between Hanover and North Streets will be closed while Boston Water and Sewer Commission crews replace the broken pipe section. Repairs to major water mains generally take 1-2 days to complete, depending on the extent of the damage.
