Buddy in Boston – Next Steps Speculated

halfayhome.jpgProvidence's corrupt mayor, a brazen statement backed up by a federal court ruling, has been released from prison in New Jersey and is now currently in a Boston halfway house. Media were camped out around the building awaiting his arrival. He thwarted most of the cameras by slipping in the back door. It appears that a Providence TV station managed to secure some cameraphone shots of his arrival. It was reported last week that he'd be coming to Boston and doing his work release time in the sales and marketing department of Fifteen Beacon, the boutique hotel. A spokesperson on his behalf told NPR this morning that Vincent "Buddy" Cianci is looking forward to talking, making statements, and returning in some way to the public eye – but that would likely not occur until July. His official release from the halfway house is scheduled for July 28, we'll be waiting for news then.

The Buddy Watch is already gearing up. NBC 10 is reporting that friends of Buddy Cianci are looking to establish a library in the presidential vein for the former Providence mayor. He's holding on to $381,318.12 in unused campaign funds that can only be used for 501(c)(3) charitable contributions, and it remains unclear if that third of a million can be used to establish such a library. According to NBC 10 that any "'campaign funds not used to pay for the expenses of gaining or holding public office may: be donated to a tax-exempt charitable organization,' according to Rhode Island election law. The organization could conceivably be a library, but the fund couldn't pay the former mayor because, 'Such expenditures may include: Donations to charitable organizations, provided the candidate or office holder does not personally benefit from the donation or receive compensation from the recipient organization,' the law states." We'll likely see Buddy slip the Hub and establish his library back in the Ocean State. We'll enjoy the first high-profile resident of the Boston halfway house while we've got him.

Halfway Home. Best. Show. Ever. They could add a Cianci-esque character as a foil for Eulogio Pla.
